Hi, I’m Rick Mileski Sr., the person behind Honest Product Picks.
A lifetime with tropical fish
I’ve kept and bred tropical fish since the late 1960s, and discus since the 1970s. For about 13 years I owned the FinTastik Tropical Fish store in Antioch, California, where I helped a lot of new fish keepers get their first tanks running.
As a breeder, I always kept a spare sponge filter running in my tanks, including the ones where parents raised their fry. When the young fish moved to their own tank, the seeded filter went with them. Small habits like that are what I try to pass on in my guides.
What I do now
Today I write practical guides and make short videos across a few topics, each on its own site:
- Beginners Fish Keepers: help for your first aquarium
- FinTastik Tropical Fish: tropical fish care and equipment
- Active Aging Wearables: wearables and healthy aging after 60
- Pet Supplies Where: pet care and product picks
- Water Purifiers World: water filter guides
